Interactive Xylophonic Keyboard Mini-Mozarts November 9, 2006 Gordon Farmer Michael Johnson Eric Laumann Bryan Marek Philip Moss

Brief Review Children’s Music Education Toy –Teach basics of: Music Reading Piano Playing –Current CAD Model:

Status of the Design Machining of frame complete –Still working on keys and slider panel Prototype circuitry complete –Test circuit produces all functionality specified in the prototype requirements Coding finished –Functions complete for each task, minor changes can be made with little effort if necessary

Schedule Behind Schedule (Prototype Development) Additional Deadlines: –11/12/06: Xylophone integrated into prototype –11/13/06: Electronics soldered onto breadboard –11/15/06: Slider Plate machined and integrated into prototype –11/16/06: Electronic connections made onto prototype –11/17/06: 4-Bar Linkage machined and integrated into prototype

“Show-Stoppers” Slide Potentiometers –Order was mishandled by vendor, would take 3+ weeks to arrive –Waiting on delivery from alternate vendor by Friday Power Distribution –Switching over from self powered protoboard to wall transformer may not drive all components

Last Week’s Action Item #1 Machine Keys and Outer Frame –Action: Reworked CAD model so parts could be machined easier –Outcome: Outer frame has been machined and is ready for assembly

Last Week’s Action Item #2 Complete Electronics –Action: Implemented ADC program/functionality onto protoboard –Outcome: Prototype has full electronic capability reading 3 successive sliders and illuminating the proper key to be played

Last Week’s Action Item #3 Find Suitable Key Sensor –Action: Went to Radio Shack and purchased SPDT Switch with Roller Lever –Outcome: Can place under key and rolls with each press for optimal triggering

Current Action Items –Assemble Machined Parts Frame has been machined and is ready to be assembled Attach all sides and supporting structures for prototypes foundation –Hardwire all Electronics Solder components to breadboard Connect new power source onto breadboard for power distribution –Integrate electronics onto Frame Attach LEDs, switches, buttons, solenoids, and sliders onto prototype assembly Make connectors for all breakout devices that will be separated from main breadboard (slider panel, keys, etc)
