5. Ops Order Part 1 - Situation Situation – this is a simple statement of what the current state of affairs is. It could identify a particular need at the moment. Ops Order 001/12 Dated 12 Jan 12 1. SITUATION On 10 Jan, York Regional Police reported that Al Qaida insurgents have been spotted in the forests around St. Andrew’s College. A search party has been requested from the #142 Highland Cadet Corps.

6. Team Task 1– Situation (5 minutes) Create a simple statement that identifies the Situation relating to your leadership project. Every member of the team must write an Operations Order individually. This statement may be the same for all your team members.

7. Ops Order Part 2 - Mission This is a simple statement that identifies what you are going to do about the “situation.” 2. SITUATION Cadets from Flavelle and Memorial Companies will be tasked to form a search party on 12 Jan, 12. Search will commence at 1500hrs and continue until last light.

8. Team Task 2 – Mission (5 minutes) IN your teams, create a statement that identifies your section’s “mission”. Add this to your individual Operations Order that you are going to submit. At the end of 5 minutes, each Team Leader will report on their team Situation and Mission.

9. Ops Order Part 3 - Execution The execution section of the operations order is the most crucial element and requires organizational skills. In order to effectively determine what needs to get done, start from the actual activity and work backgrounds. This is called the “military estimate.” The execution is detailed in Phases. 3. EXECUTION – a. This mission will be completed in 5 Phases. i. Phase 1 – description ii. Phase 2 – etc b. Detailed Timings i. Phase 1 – 0900 hrs 12 Jan 12

10. Team Task 3 – Execution (15 minutes) Communications people are to lead your group in determining the Phases of your Operation using the Military Estimate. Lead your group by standing up in front and leading discussion. Comms person will take notes on large paper and marker. Each member of the team must take notes and add this to his Operations Order. Each member should complete his own version in his own words.

11. Ops Order Part 4 – Service Support The Service Support section outlines all the required services and equipment that is required to complete your mission. This includes; training equipment, first aid supplies, radios, accommodations, rations, transport etc. This section should also designate where the materials are coming from and who is responsible for gathering them.

12. Team Task 4 – Service Support (10 minutes) The “Logistics” members of your group will lead a planning discussion on what supplies you will need. 4. SERVICE SUPPORT  a. The following search and rescue materials are required from Cadet Stores no later than 1200hrs:  i. area maps - 12  ii. Flashlights - 24  iii. Radios – 12  b. Ops Order Part 5 – Command and Signal Command and Signal refers to two main areas; Chain of Command – this is a clear outline of who the team leader is (OPI), the platoon commanders, section commanders, Supply Officer, etc Radio code names - Sunray, Sunray minor, 2 Alpha etc - Action upon a ‘no duff’ call

14. Team Task 5 – Command and Signal (10 min) Personnel members of your team will lead a discussion on the Command structure of your team and create a “chain of command” Identify radio code names for key people in the team that would be on radio comms.
