The Research Context Since 1975, and specifically after Beijing, global awareness around gender equality increasing, alongside progressive policy change and affirmative action. HOWEVER –Progress varies across issue areas –Uneven progress across countries –Filtering of global agendas into the national agendas.

Understanding the policy change for women’s rights –What are the factors and conditions that trigger and support policy change? –How do the processes vary across issues within and between countries? –What role do transnational actors and the global agendas play in these processes? FOCUS: Processes of negotiation and contestation that lies behind policy change
