Solar Flows From Small and Large Ring Analyses kyky kxkx
2
What is a small tile vs a large tile High degree ( ℓ > 300) acoustic waves are damped such that they do not circumnavigate the sun. Therefore, their frequencies are local measures of sun’s properties. Local helioseismology uses these short wavelength acoustic waves measured on small patches of the solar surface. tile < 4 o small tile = 15 o standard tile > 30 o large
3
Small Tiles flows associated with the genesis, evolution, and eruption of filaments flows beneath active regions correlated with flaring flows associated with supergranulation and giant cells Science Possibilities
4
With large tiles and new methods for taking care of the spherical nature of the waves, it may be possible to study the meridional flow, as well as anisotropies in the zonal flow, at the base of the convection zone. Knowledge of these flows is important for understanding the solar dynamo. Large Tiles
