Smart Occupancy Monitoring System (SOMS) Using Motes Siva Desaraju CS603, SummerII, 03 Western Michigan University
2
Introduction (SOMS) –an application to determine the occupancy using a network of tiny devices from a central system –user-friendly –Scalable (Can be embedded in a browser as an applet)
3
Design (SOMS) Target Room Intermediate Mote Base Station Every building/every floor will have a base station connected via a network of motes
4
Features (SOMS) –Get occupancy of a room –Can be used to maintain health statistics of a network –Individual factors like light, sound/noise, temperature can be monitored –Event based/Triggers – Fire Alarm
5
Components (SOMS) Java (Graphical User Interface) TinyDB (Communication among motes/including base station)
6
User Interface (SOMS)
7
Challenges Calibrating data Packets get lost/so needed extra sampling
8
Assumptions Occupancy affects atleast one of the three sensing factors
9
Conclusion/Results Networked Motes/Base Station Occupancy determined by multiple factors and hence increased accuracy Accuracy of our results – around 80% More motes/More accurate results
