6. Franco Stibiel EUROPE DIRECT information relays act as an interface between citizens and the Union at local level. Franco Stibiel The new information centres – 393, and for the first time also in the new member states - offer a range of services, including guides to EU law, programmes and policies, treaty texts (including the European Constitution), a public feedback mechanism (a question, comment or opinion that a citizen would like to pass to the Commission in writing) and a freephone to the EUROPE DIRECT centre on 00800 6 7 8 9 10 11. Many will also provide a TV showing “Europe by Satellite”, enabling the public to keep abreast of the latest EU news as it happens. The relays are typically chamber of commerce or local authorities.

8. Franco Stibiel Europe Direct Trieste The former Info Point Europa Trieste (IPE) is run by the Municipality of Trieste on agreement with the European Commission. It is part of the municipality bureau of information and is coordinated by U.R.P. (Ufficio Relazioni con il Pubblico – Public Relation Bureau). It was inaugurated on June 23rd 1999. This network is turning “old” as the first 17 were set up in 1994. Nowadays they number 393 in the Eu. 39 in Italy, practically two in every region.
