3. Adaptations  Viruses adapt to their hosts by evading defense mechanisms and taking over the cell’s metabolism for their own benefit.  A virus can only attach to very few types of cells.  In other viruses the attachment protein is in the capsid or in the envelope

They are inanimate complex organic matter.
