GOES-14 Imager Visible Channel: Initial Post- launch Calibration 1. Purpose provide the initial post-launch operational calibration coefficients 2. Data GOES-14 Imager visible and Terra MODIS collocation data on 12/23/2009 3. Method Wu, X and F. Sun (2005). GOES-14 Imager Visible Channel: Initial Post- launch Calibration Figure. Upper: the accumulated histograms of GOES-MODIS collocated cloud pixels (R > 15%) (black: post-launch cal. GOES data, red: MODIS estimated GOES data, and blue: pre-launch GOES data). Lower: percentages of mismatched cloud pixels at various slope correction The correction factor is the slope correction with lowest mis- matched GOES-MODIS reflectance histogram in the red line data range.

GOES-14 Imager Visible Channel: Initial Post- launch Calibration Results: R post = R pre * C 1 R post and R pre are the post-launch and pre-launch calibration reflectance/radiance; C 1 = 1.0695 is the correction factor. Also available at http://www.starnesdis.noaa.gov/smcd/spb/fwu/homepag e/GOES_Imager_Vis_OpCal.php#g14_init_postlaunch http://www.starnesdis.noaa.gov/smcd/spb/fwu/homepag e/GOES_Imager_Vis_OpCal.php#g14_init_postlaunch This result is consistent with initial post-launch calibration for GOES-12/13 (C 1 = 1.08/1.12) but is barely in agreement with lunar calibration result for GOES-14 (C 1 = 0.99).
