Have many social contacts and activities – Party a lot! Dances Luncheons Church/Temple groups Community service groups (Masons, Scottish Rite) Travel

4 Nutrition Moderation is the key! Eat less red meat “I eat less red meat than I ever have in my life” Lots of fruits and veggies Lower salt intake Less sugar and carbohydrates Mediterranean Diet: Lots of garlic, greens and olive oil

5 Family Grandchildren “Grandchildren help keep us young. Can’t be boring with them around” Having family close by helps People with close-knit families stay happier and feel more loved Marriage is important

6 Exercise Very important for health –Walking –some walk for miles everyday –Weight lifting – (an 82 year old man) –Gardening –Housecleaning –Dancing –Daily stretches

7 Attitudes –Optimism is EXTREMELY important Sense of humor “I’m doing alright today, I’m still breathing” Sense of resilience “We’ve made it this far and nothing’s killed us yet” Knowing that they’re loved and needed
