5. 作業 -Unit 1  Intercultural Communication by Jandt You do not have to respond to Jandt in writing. You just have to read Jandt and answer the discussion questions.  Other essays: For the second week you have to read the assigned articles then choose *one* of the supplemental articles to report on (the first assignment, due on July 17). The article list is long, but there are three or four very short pieces.

6. Video project on cross-cultural communications  This project will require that you work with a “ volunteer Westerner ” in order to role-play difficult communication situations. There are usually a number floating around campus, and if you can ’ t cajole a colleague into helping, you could try finding a student at the Chinese Language Institute who might be willing to trade time for Chinese conversation. When my mother and I lived in Taiwan, we were forever being asked to be in such projects, and we usually enjoyed it, so don ’ t be shy!  轉檔和上傳工作需要幫忙，請找 Judy Yang.  * If you videotape your communication, it will be the best to do it with a mic and in a quiet place.  * If you do not have a digital camera (DV), we can make do with audiotape.
