Wind Turbine By Misfer Almarri
2
Wind Turbine Efficiency Depends on the size of the turbine and the average wind speed How much power needed What type of turbine you have ◦ Horizontal ◦ Vertical
3
Wind Turbine Types Horizontal ◦ Laminar wind – smooth flow, constant velocity Vertical ◦ Turbulent wind- wind direction changes, velocity changes,
4
Location If you have a location u need a lot of data or Computational fluid dynamics to get the turbines performance. the minimum speed has to be found before designing the blades. ◦ Many turbines only start to work (or ‘cut in’) at a minimum wind speed. If the wind speed is lower than the cut in speed, then the turbine won’t turn at all.

Blades
6
Material Good materials and manufacturing methods provide the opportunity to improve wind turbine efficiency. To design a good blade we should have law weight and high stuffiness. We should pick up the material based on the size of the blade.
7
Material, cont Fiber class : this kind of material used in relatively large blades due its quality and its law cost. Carbon –fiber : it is known as its cost-effective means for reducing weight and increasing stiffness.
8
Material, cont light metals such as aluminum: can be used for Smaller blades due to their low price, availability, and ease of manufacture. Disadvantage : These materials, however, require frequent maintenance during their lifetime.
