The library’s user education sessions consisted of: A tour of the facilities An introduction to the library’s services A familiarization with the library’s website and its links to databases A demonstration of how to search the bibliographic databases Hands on practice in bibliographic searches

The first steps towards an information literacy programme First year: –Encyclopedias such as Britannica online and an Icelandic database with full text newspaper articles Second year: –Databases like Medline, Cinahl, Proquest and Philosophers’ Index and electronic journals Third and final year –Advanced database searching –Emphasis on electronic journals –Reference interview with focus on the subject of the students’ dissertation or thesis

The UA’s information and communication technology (ICT) objectives and targets are: Objective: The UA will prepare students in the use of ICT both in their personal lives and future professions Targets: –UA assures that students will be trained to be efficient in information literacy skills –UA assures that all students will be taught and trained in ICT skills –UA will strive towards making students able to use computers and ICT creatively in their studies and future professions

The UA’s ICT objectives and targets are: Objective: UA will provide support services in the use of ICT that are exemplary within the country Targets –The UA Library will offer modern and technically advanced information services, for example by providing access to databases and digital journals –To provide the users of UA’s computer network access to both hardware and software that is regularly updated and will meet their needs at any given time in the future to be continued

The UA’s ICT objectives and targets are: Targets: continued –The UA will provide effective ICT services including an efficient help desk service for its students and staff. Teaching and training in ICT skills with the aim of making people self-sufficient in their work with computers and software will be emphasized and increased
