Project Proposal Develop a system that can detect and highlight a moving object Applications: Security camera Traffic flow control Presence detector Safety – e.g. Swimming pool
3
Overall System Camera Processing System Video Display Controller
4
Functional Block Diagram Camera Noise Filter, Gray Scaling RS-232 Processor Memory User Controller Video Display Movement Filter, Resolution Control
5
Camera A low resolution Polaroid Digital 320 will be used to periodically send serial data to the processor Camera Specifications: Resolution: 320 x 240 Power: 9V DC Supply Interface: RS-232 serial
6
Noise Filter and Gray scaling Grayscale camera image to reduce image size Reduce processing time Remove noise from video signal in non- ideal lighting conditions Reduce false movement
7
Processor The Motorola 68000 Features include: Assembly Language 8MHz, wire-wrapping 24-bit memory addressing 16-bit bus
8
Memory Processor will send each frame to memory Two megabytes of memory will be used If more is needed a second processor will be connected in parallel to expand the memory to four megabytes
9
Software The software will take in a frame and the previous one The two frames will be subtracted from each other, and moving objects will be detected If a moving object is detected the object will be highlighted in the image
10
Controller User interface: 9-button keypad Adjustable resolution of picture Temporal and spatial filtering can be controlled to remove unwanted noise e.g. Rain and movement of tree leaves
11
Movement Filter The processor will compare each frame with the previous frame to detect motion If motion is detected the processor will be programmed to highlight the moving object Output frame with moving object highlighted
12
Video Display Processor displays image on a computer monitor NTSC Specify frames per second Specify number of pixels
13
Power Supply Design and build an power to supply to take 120VAC to 3.3VDC, 5VDC, and 9 VDC
14
Functional Example
15
Safety Shield user from all potentially harmful voltages No moving parts
16
Risks and Contingency Plan Allocate enough time for unfamiliar components Not familiar in video display technology Speed of identifying algorithm Try multiple approaches until desired time is acceptable
17
Schedule
