1 Integers Standard:

2 Write in your notes... Integer: {…, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, …}
Positives, Negatives, and zero -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5 No decimals, no fractions

3 Watch the next two vocabulary words…
Origin: The point on the number line labeled zero Real Numbers: Any number that is positive, negative, or zero -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5 Negative Positive Origin

4 Tell you partner in your own words:
What is “origin” and what are real numbers?

5 Shout out!   Integer or Real Number? Real Number -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2
1 2 3 4 5 Integer -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5

6 With your partner… A B The first number is… The next one is…
Determine who will be shoulder-partner A and shoulder-partner B Person A will name the first number in the following example Person B names the second number, then Person A the next… Name the order of all the numbers in the coming example The first number is… The next one is… A B

7      Which is Greater? -4, -1, 0, 2, 5  5, 2, -4, 0, -1 -5 -4 -3
-2 -1 1 2 3 4 5 Positive Numbers Negative Numbers

8 Moving on the Number Line
Choral Response + means a move to the _______ on the number line - means a move to the _______ on the number line right left

9 Pencils down… Watch the next two examples… Look for patterns

10 Practice   +3 = -2 5 + (-7) right -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5 -5 -4 -3
1 2 3 4 5 = -2 -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5

11 In your notes... 5 + 3 = 8 -13 + (-4) = -17
When adding two numbers with the same sign (++ or - -): Add the number and keep the sign the same Example: 5 + 3 = 8 -13 + (-4) = -17

12 Story Time Armando earned $10 by doing his chores at home, and this is all the money he has. He discovers… he lost his math book!! Armando now owes the school $58 for that nice textbook. Using his $10 to start paying it off, how much more does he have to pay?

13 Tell your neighbor how to find how much $$ Armando owes.
To find the Amount of money...

14 Mathematically, it looks like this:
$10 + -$58 = -$48 Or = -48 10 + (-58)

15 Shout out! -11 + 8 = -3 - 4 + 7 = 3 The answer is… Example 3:
= 3 The answer is… The base is… The exponent is… The coefficient is… The monomial is… Repeat for example 4

16 In your notes: Write a what you think might be the rule for adding integers with different signs. Compare your definitions with your partner’s definitions. Add to your definitions or revise them if necessary.

17 -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5
