How will you create this professional map using MapInfo? In this lesson, you will learn how to create a layout with the following components: Map body, title, legend, north arrow, scalebar, & prepared by You will also learn some attributes of “good” map design.

2. Components of a Map: Title: Subject matter, date of data, & by what geography Legend: explain symbols, color, patterns used. For thematic legends: Legend title = UNITS used, Ascending or descending order North arrow (optional) Scalebar (optional) Source: Who, what, when Prepared by: who, include date prepared Map body

To create a layout for printing: After you have opened the desired data layers to your map, you are ready to create the layout: 1 2 3 4 5 1 Select Window> New Layout Window 2 Select appropriate frame option (usually One Frame) 3 Select OK and the Layout window appears 4 Use the text tool to add titles, source, and prepared by- to the layout 5 Use the frame tool to add other open map windows, legend, or browsers to the layout 6 To print: select File> Print
