Tornadoes A tornado is a violent rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. They can destroy large buildings, uproot trees and hurl vehicles hundreds of yards. In an average year, 1000 tornadoes are reported nationwide

Lightning Lightning is a bright flash of electricity produced by a thunderstorm. If you hear the sound of thunder than you are in danger from lightning. Lightning kills and injures more people each year than hurricanes or tornadoes; between 75 to 100 people.

How Hot Is Lightning? Lightning is approximately 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit. That is six times hotter than the surface of the sun!

Thunderstorms A storm with thunder and lightning. Usually produces gusty winds, heavy rain and sometimes hail. Thunderstorms can occur year- round and at all hours There are around 1,800 thunderstorms that occur across our planet every day.
