2 Background A Statewide Initiative –Utah Academic Library Consortium (UALC) –Internet Navigator Online Course www-navigator.utah.edu/ –UALC Information for Life Committee New revision, expanded vision

3 Faculty Resources Clearinghouse Faculty Resources for Library Instruction & Information Literacy –www-navigator.utah.edu/faculty/ Purpose –To share library instruction and information literacy competency materials across Utah.

4 Faculty Resources Clearinghouse Content development/ process –A ‘volunteer’ effort –Team meets once per month –Most correspondence done electronically

6 Site Contents 1. Information Literacy/Instruction Clearinghouse –Similar to LOEX model –Instruction materials on a variety of library instruction and information literacy issues provided by Utah libraries –Printer-friendly formats (PDF and/or HTML) –handouts

7 Site Contents 1. Information Literacy/Instruction Clearinghouse (cont.) Includes both Navigator course materials and more general information, such as: –Database handouts –Library course syllabi –Institutional library instruction & information literacy pages –Subject-related guides/pathfinders –General library tutorials –handouts

8 Site Contents 2. Navigator Course Instructors’ Pages –Standardized Replies –Suggested Grading Rubrics –Course FAQ (for students) –Detailed Course Outline –Link to Online Grades Database

9 Site Contents 3. Suggestion Form –Improvements to Navigator course –Information forwarded to database for revision team –Major revisions done once per semester

10 Funding Provided cooperatively by UALC –For ongoing development and maintenance of Navigator course and Faculty Resource site –Includes some funding for graphic design and programming

11 Future Plans Promotion of site to Utah community Addition of more quality materials Development of more interactive tutorials using dynamic Web programming Searchable interface Development policies & guidelines Usage statistics

12 Conclusion Cost effective outcome of UALC’s ongoing collaborative efforts A central location for instructional ideas Reduces need for duplication of resources Increases quality of resources Enhances support for information literacy competency across the state and region
