Review of key themes
2
Module 1: Data demand & use key concepts Data are needed to improve the delivery of services Providers play a critical role in data collection, data monitoring, problem identification, & solution development Decisions based on evidence lead to better health outcomes Decision making is affected by three major determinants
3
Purpose of analysis is to provide answers to programmatic questions Descriptive analyses describe the sample/target population Descriptive analyses do not define causality – tell you what, not why Not all data analysis requires computers and software Module 2: Data analysis key concepts
4
Module 3: Basic analyses Coverage – extent to which a program reaches its intended target population, institution, or geographic area Retention – the extent to which the range of services are being delivered as initially intended It is important to look at both to fully understand your services
5
Module 4: Data presentation & interpretation Use the right graph for the right data Tables – can display a large amount of data Graphs/charts – visual, easier to detect patterns Label the components of your graphic Interpreting data adds meaning by making connections and comparisons to program Service data are good at tracking progress & identifying concerns – do not show causality
6
Effective data feedback helps ensure use of information for planning and programmatic improvement It is important to identify and address barriers to information flow Information Use Map can highlight intervention points to improve information use Module 5: Sharing data & information
7
Module 6: Making data-informed decisions Building data use into your work takes planning and dedicated time The Framework for Linking Data with Action can be used to create an actionable plan for using data in decision making
