2 2 This is Only a Guideline  The intention is to try to help you prepare for the exam  This should not be and not intended to be used to validate/invalidate an exam question

3 3 General Structure  40 minutes  Generally short answer questions. E.g. –True and False or multiple choice –What would you do/use if … –Why questions –What is the difference –What is the advantage  No long essay questions –Write what you know about... –Describe the details of a system, etc.  Study from slides (understand fully) and use book as a reference

4 4 More specific examples  True/False questions –Example: »(T/F) To connect my computer to a modem using an RS232 cable, I will use a null modem cable.  Write a simple client and/or a server –Use pseudo java-like code »Write a client/server program that does the following: …  Advantages/disadvantages. E.g., –What is the main advantage of FM over AM? –Packet switching advantages?  Difference? –What is the difference baud rate and bit rate  Short answer questions –If we are using 4 voltage levels for data transmission, what is the relationship between bit rate and baud rate? –When would you use error correction codes rather than error detection codes? –Compute the parity and use it to validate a received message –Compute the checksum and use it to validate a received message  Other, e.g. –Apply data stuffing
