The Home Visiting and Parenting Education Committee works to develop and implement a roadmap for building and maintaining quality home visiting programs and systems. Idaho Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program

What is Home Visiting? Voluntary parent support and coaching for expecting parents, new parents and caregivers, and young children up to the age of five Children do not come with an instruction manual Communities come together to help families in need matching them with trained providers such as social workers, nurses, and educators Help parents learn how to: Care for their children Understand their child’s development Care for themselves Idaho Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program

What are the Benefits? Reduced health care costs Reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect Decreased welfare use among participants Increased pre-literacy skills and later achievement Increased family self sufficiency Better adult economic social outcomes Idaho Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program

What are the Benefits? Idaho Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program What is MIECHV? The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program is a federal program that grants money to states to support home visiting services for expecting parents, new parents, caregivers, and their children through 5 years of age. The MIECHV program is designed to achieve the following through scientifically proven home visiting programs: Provide comprehensive services to improve the health and well-being for families Improve service coordination in communities Strengthen and improve other maternal and child health services and activities in the state Max’s story of making the connection “This father has grown by leaps and bounds as a father, and as a person.”

Formula Funds Idaho Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program The Idaho MIECHV program contracts with four local organizations in Kootenai, Shoshone, Jerome, and Twin Falls counties to serve eligible women, infants, young children, and their families through the scientifically proven home visiting programs (shown on the map below). Local MIECHV programs began serving families during the summer of 2012. Collaboration with WIC Referral Partner Referring eligible families with young children to home visiting programs. Receiving referrals from home visiting programs for nutrition-related issues. Working with home visiting programs to identify resources to alleviate food- insecurity among families with young children. Service Coordination Developing formal agreements with home visiting programs. Partnering with home visiting programs to address nutrition- related issues with pregnant women and young children.
