This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement No 280756 Antonia Morales Perez (Cefic), Thomas Track (DECHEMA) Eco-efficient management of water in European Chemical Industry: E4Water SPIRE PPP Impact workshop Brussels, 21-22 April 2015
2
The rationale of E4Water Chemical Industry provides the highest potential for increasing eco- efficiency in industrial water management. Chemical process industry is water user and solution provider for key strategic European process industry sectors such as mining, industrial biotechnology, health, food, electronic, pulp and paper, and energy. E4Water addresses crucial process industry needs, to overcome bottlenecks and barriers for an integrated, cost and energy efficient water management. April 22, 2015 – SPIRE PPP Impact Workshop
3
Aim/ Challenges (I) AIM: Develop, implement and validate new integrated approaches for a more efficient and sustainable management of water in Chemical Industry achieving solutions that are eco-efficient: >-20% water use, >-30% wastewater production, > -15% energy consumption), cost-effective (up to > 20% cost reduction) and industrially relevant. April 22, 2015 – SPIRE PPP Impact Workshop
4
Aim/ Challenges (II) Creating water loop interfaces and synergies: (I) in industry (II) with urban & agricultural water management Overcome the bottleneck in recycling and reuse: Treating concentrates/complex wastewaters Linking water- and production processes for process efficiency optimization April 22, 2015 – SPIRE PPP Impact Workshop
