4. A DIVIDED CHURCH Having An Attitude Of Gratitude
Divided in Doctrine (Vs 10 – “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.) 
Divided in Dedication (Vs One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptised in the name of Paul?)
Divided in Devotion (Vs speaks about Christ’s Power, the wisdom of God and that we should only give glory to Christ)

5. In the midst of all of this Paul gives thanks for a number of things in 1 Corinthians 1:1-9:

6. 1. They were recipients of God’s bountiful grace and mercy.
Vs 4 – “I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.”

7. 2. They were rich in the blessings of God.
Vs 5 – “For in him you have been enriched in every way.”

8. Ephesians 1:18 – “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.”

9. 3. They were experiencing the miracle that Christ was amongst them.

10. 4. Despite their failings Spiritual Gifts were evident in their meetings.

11. 5. They had the promise that God would sustain them to the end.
 Vs 8 – “He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

12. Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

13. 6. Paul tells them that God is faithful to those who heed His call.
