EL 15 DE OCTUBRE Los Complementos Indirectos

The Basics #1 The job of a d.o. or d.o. is tell who or what receives the action of the verb. The job of an i.o. or i.o.p. is to tell to whom or for whom an action is performed. My mom bought Joe a new computer. Mrs. Smith gave the students the assignment. We gave the money to you.

The Basics #2 Oftentimes (but not always) your i.o. or i.o.p. will appear with a d.o. or d.o.p. He told me the secret. He told me.

Basics #3 The steps to locating the i.o. / i.o.p. are very similar to those for d.o. / d.o.p. 1 st Find the verb. 2 nd Ask who/what (to i.d. a d.o. or d.o.p.) 3 rd Ask to whom / for whom (to i.d. an i.o. or i.o.p.)

Las Posibilidades para Pronombre De Complemento Indirecto MeNos TeOs LeLes

Placement of i.o.p. 1 a) Most basic scenario: Goes directly before the verb María me compró un coche. 1b) BUT when a d.o.p. is also present, the i.o.p. will PRECEED the d.o.p. María me lo compró. (She bought me it.)

1c) In very specific instances, the i.o.p. can get attached to an infinitive, present participle, or affirmative command. ¡Cómpramelo! (Buy me it!) (it = car)

However... #1 Beware when d.o.p. (lo, la, los, las only) follows either le or les... “You can’t say le – lo so say se – lo. (or any combo) La profesora les las dio. = La profesora se las dio.

However... #2 When a noun is used as an indirect object, the i.o.p. is usually used as well. You will hear Sra. refer to this as “overkill.” Yo le di el dinero al Sr. Rodriguez. El jefe les dijo las noticias a los empleados.

Common Verbs Only a certain number of verbs will accept i.o. / i.o.p. Therefore, you tend to see the same verbs used repeatedly. Brainstorm!
