ADJECTIVES Describe a noun Agree in number Agree in gender Usually follow the noun ADVERBS Describe a verb Do not agree with anything in the sentence Follows the verb

cuidadoso especial fácil feliz frecuente lento normal rápido reciente tranquilo careful special easy happy frequent slow normal quick recent tranquil

Spanish uses adverbs ending in –mente. This is just like the English –ly. (i.e. carefully, calmly) To form these adverbs, add –mente to the feminine form of the adjective: i.e. If the adjective ends in “o”, you must first change the “o” to an “a” (feminine form) before adding the – mente.
5
Examples: To form the adverb for “fast” (rápido ) take the feminine form, rápida, and add –mente: rápidamente. If the adjective doesn’t have a feminine form, simply add -mente. Example: To form the adverb for difficult (difícil): difícilmente. This is the same for adverbs like felizmente, frecuentemente, and especialmente

cuidadoso especial fácil feliz frecuente lento normal rápido reciente tranquilo careful special easy happy frequent slow normal quick recent tranquil
7
cuidadosamente especialmente fácilmente felizmente frecuentemente lentamente normalmente rápidamente recientemente tranquilamente carefully specially easily happily frequently slowly normally rapidly recently tranquilly
8
When two adverbs modify the same verb, only the second one uses the -mente ending. Note that the first adverb is the same as the feminine singular form of the adjective. Juan trabaja lenta y cuidadosamente. Juan works slowly and carefully. El chico habla clara y cortésmente. The boy speaks clearly and courteously. El autor escribe rápida y fácilmente. The author writes quickly and easily
9
Another way to form an adverb is to use the preposition con + the singular form of the noun. cuidadoso (carefully) cuidadosamente or con cuidado perfecto (perfectly) perfectamente or con perfección cariñoso (affectionately) cariñosamente or con cariño
