2. The Verb Estar Estar means “to be” It is an IRREGULAR verb
It does NOT follow the pattern of REGULAR
-AR VERBS
In writing, be sure to use the accent mark on all forms except the “yo” and “nosotros” forms.

3. TO BE (In English)
I am
You are He
She is It
We are
They are

4. ESTAR Yo estoy Tú estás Ud. Él está Ella Nosotros estamos Uds.
Ellos están
Ellas

5. USE OF ESTAR Estar is used to tell “location” of a person or a thing.
subject + to be + location
El libro está en la mesa The book is on the table.
Maria y Carlos están en clase Maria and Carlos are in class.
La Srta Villegas está enfrente de la clase. Ms. Villegas is in front of the class.

6. USE OF ESTAR
Estar is also used to tell the condition of something or someone.
These conditions are normally not permanent
subject + to be + condition
Maria está enferma Maria is sick.
Elisa y tú están ocupados. Elisa and you are busy.
