Gustar Gustar = to like Use gustar to say what people like. If the thing they like is singular, use “gusta.” If the thing they like is plural, use “gustan.” Use “¿qué?” with a gusta/gustan to ask what someone likes.

Gusta/gustan must have a pronoun with it to say who likes something. The pronouns tells who the subject is. Put the word “no” before the pronoun to say don’t or doesn’t. Example: No, no me gustan las verduras. (No, I don’t like vegetables.)

¿por qué? And porque To ask “why?” use ¿por qué? And answer with porque (because). Example: ¿Por qué te gusta el helado? (Why do you like ice cream?) Me gusta porque es delicioso. (I like it because it’s delicious)

Gustar with definite articles In Spanish, the definite articles (el, la, los, las) are ALWAYS used when talkinga bout things you like or dislike. Example: Me gusta la pizza. (I like pizza)
