3. Mi día de feria favorito es…. Las fallas de Valencia takes place in Valencia, Spain every year between the 15th & 19th of March. This festival is used for the commonpeople to make fun of celebrities, royalty & political figures of the country. They make fun of these people by creating huge figures (niñots) of cardboard, wood or cork. These figures are very creative & have a lot of detail so it is easy to see who the figures represent. People spend a whole year creating these festivals & up to $750,000. The festival is a week long & during the week, the figures or niñots are displayed through the town. On the final day, the niñots are collected together, & burned in a huge fire that everyone comes to see. This holiday is important in Spain because it is a way for people to speak out against corrupt politics, overpaid celebrities & injustice. It is really hard for me to believe that Spaniards spend so much time, money & energy creating these figures just to burn them. The burning of these figures proves to me that it is important for Spaniards to speak out against wrong doing. We have no similar holiday like it in the United States. We do not have a holiday that is surrounded by a central burning. The closest holiday that we have to Las fallas de Valencia is Independence day where we set off fireworks to celebrate our independence as a country.
