Gustar- To like Me gusta el perro. Nos gustan los libros. In English- I like the dog. We like the books. In Spanish- The dog is pleasing to me. The books are pleasing to us. In English we have to have a direct object and in Spanish we have an indirect object. This is the indirect object.
8
Notice that the conjugated verb is “gusta” not “gusto” this is a common mistake. Remember to conjugate the verb to agree with the subject of the sentence. Singular or plural, regardless of the indirect object. Le gusta la sofa. – It’s impossible to tell if it’s he, she, or you formal. – To clarify you can use a preprepositional phrase A el le gusta la sofa. A Raquel le gusta la sofa.
9
If you wanted to say that you didn’t like something, simply insert “no” in front of the indirect object. – No me gustan los gatos. – A ella, no le gusta la silla.
