Possessive Adjectives Mi(s) – my Tu(s) – your (familiar) Su(s) – his, her, your(polite) Nuestro(a)(os)(as)- our Vuestro(a)(os)(as)- your (plural,familiar) Su(s) – their, your(plural)

Possessive adjectives are placed in front of the nouns they modify. Mi madre es muy bonita. My mother is very pretty. Nuestra casa está en Tunkhannock. Our house is in Tunkhannock. Su hermano tiene dieciséis años. Her brother is sixteen years old.

Possessive adjectives must agree in number with the noun they modify. Tu sobrino estudia latín. Your nephew studies Latin Tus sobrinos estudian latín. Your nephews study Latin.

More examples…. Mi profesor es interesante. My teacher is interesting. Mis profesores son interesantes. My teachers are interesting.

When used out of context, the translation of “su” may be unclear. Su libro es rojo. His, her, your, or their book is red. Sus libros son rojos. His, her, your, or their books are red.

But in context… La clase tiene un libro nuevo. Su libro es rojo. The clase has a new book. Their book is red. > The context, or first sentence, would clarify the translation of “su” in the second sentence.
