Descripciones To describe people and things in Spanish we use adjectives Adjectives are modifiers that MUST BE IN AGREEMENT WITH THE NOUN (i.e. number and gender) they are describing. Ex: – La casa bonita / las casas bonitas. – La casa es bonita / las casas son bonitas In Spanish, the adjective usually comes AFTER the noun it modifies…which is opposite of what we do in English

Examples The white dog = the dog white = el perro blanco The funny boy = the boy funny = el chico gracioso The smart students = the students smart = los estudiantes inteligentes BUT The dog is white = el perro es blanco The boy is funny = el chico es gracioso The students are smart = Los estudiantes son inteligentes

Rules for adjectives All adjectives need to agree in NUMBER and GENDER. – La casA es bonitA Adjectives that en in E don’t have a gender but they need to agree in NUMBER – El estudiante inteligentE – La chica inteligentE If the adjective ends in a consonant, to make it plural add ES – El niño veloZ Los niños velocES
