EN-EL trades: CABLING AND FIBRES Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT4 Type of activity ① Provide supply, installation and removal of Copper cables Signal (Data & Ctrl) Direct Current (DC) power Optical Fibres All types, incl. special radiation resistant For all CERN accelerators, experiments (optical fibres only) and general infrastructure ② Provide engineering support to the CERN users for Specification of copper cable cross-sections, optical fibres and connectors Budget estimation (preliminary envelopes, etc.) Users shall: Specify their needs and present the requests well in time 3 to 1 years before LS2 with increasing precision start now! Private (point-to-point) networks Dense multi-user network

EN-EL trades: POWER DISTRIBUTION Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT5 Type of activity Provide engineering support to the CERN users for Analysis of needs and translate into electrical power distribution Drawing up technical solutions Establishing cost estimations (preliminary envelopes, etc.) Coordinating among electrical network activities (High Voltage, Low Voltage, Control and Operation sections) Ensuring onsite follow up of contractors activities Ensuring commissioning and test of installations …and transfer to OP section (including stand by and maintenance program) Users shall: Specify their needs and present the requests well in time 3 to 1 years before LS2 with increasing precision start now! Requests might have an impact on the electrical network architecture!

The LIU challenges for EN-EL Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT6 A multi-points and multi-machines project Very strong coordination needs (internal and external to EN-EL) Massive works expected for Cabling and Fibres (CF) in aging machines Incl. new cables, replacement/removal of old ones (…in radioactive areas) Power distribution needs to be clarified and carefully assessed Infrastructure upgrade, replacement/removal of old systems and equipment, additional equipment, power upgrade?

Organisation for LIU: POWER DISTRIBUTION Contact persons for Power Distribution LV distribution J. Devine & J. Pierlot (backup) J. Devine R. Necca To be determined HV distribution CO systems Contact persons for individual machines might change depending on: -Type of activity (LV vs HV) -Workload & Planning of requests J. Gomez C. Bovet TBD To Be Determined Main contact person for EN-EL Power Distribution

Organisation for LIU: POWER DISTRIBUTION Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT11 A few remarks: No cables will be cut and left in raised floors or on cable trays (risks), when dismantling of the equipment Some requests might have an impact on the network design and therefore generate modification on the architecture Outdated distributions might have to be renovated according to legislation if or when modified
12
What is needed from LIU (1/5) Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT12 Identify clearly which requests are part of LIU List of requests, organised by sub-projects if necessary start now! With priorities start now! Steer identification of obsolete systems (hence cables) with machine coordination and users Mandatory to achieve during 2015 YETS! Need minimum level of identified obsolete cables for enabling LIU installations 50% identified in SPS-BA5 PSB and PS are even older, hence… Today you are at 8% (PSB), 2.3% (PS+TT2+B354/150), 0% SPS- BA3/BB3 From a global EN-EL perspective
13
What is needed from LIU (2/5) Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT13 Develop new systems and optimise the existing ones aiming at reducing the number of cables in use: Standardize more effective cable types Use optical fibres whenever possible (define connectors with EL-CF) Help us identifying obsolete electrical infrastructure Old socket boxes and plugs start now! Old local emergency stops start now! Old switchboards start now! Old lighting systems start now! From a global EN-EL perspective Old database not always reliable or simply not existing !
14
What is needed from LIU (3/5) Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT14 Organisation of the LIU coordination meetings Attention to multiple discussions on the same subjects Cascade strategy/decisions from PLI meeting (boost cross-coordination) Help to save the time of EN-EL people (very busy) Organisation of the LIU planning Always allocate at least two slots corresponding to the two EN-EL trades: EN-EL cabling (copper and fibres) EN-EL power distribution Be ready to split in more slots when activities get better defined Organisation of the LIU Engineering Change Requests Coordination meetings: review the consistency ECR cabling requests From a global EN-EL perspective
15
Organisation of the LIU budget codes Start with allocation of at least one budget code for each type of activity Signal (copper) cabling DC power cabling Optical Fibres Low Voltage distribution High Voltage distribution Control systems Significant discounts (up to 46%) for large quantities in the new electrical installation contract Need to workout together an adapted budget code structure to hit the max. discounts What is needed from LIU (4/5) Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT15 From a global EN-EL perspective will be organised by campaigns users’ money to be collected in centralised codes (to be arranged by LIU project coordination) To be discussed
16
See detailed presentation from G. Georgiev In particular for CABLING AND FIBRES What is needed from LIU (5/5) Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT16 Present the requirements (next few months) In particular for POWER DISTRIBUTION
17
Conclusions Mar 4, 2015LIU-PLI meeting - D. RICCI, J. PIERLOT17 LIU is a very large project for EN-EL Keep in mind two EN-EL trades and organise accordingly Cabling (copper + fibres) needs are partially known To be reviewed and further specified Power distribution needs are mostly unknown Urge to start to understand them Upgrade & Consolidation go together Users must identify a critical mass of obsolete systems/cables to enable LIU installations Essential to efficiently organise meetings, planning and budgets Resources very much loaded on EN-EL side Anticipation during Run2 is vital Identify obsolete systems + upgrade need start the works during YETS and EYETS Preparation starts now for en efficient LS2!
