1 Thermal Power Plant Desulfurization Liquid Density Measurements 3051S ERS Application of Rosemount 3051S ERS in Thermal Power Plant Desulfurization Gypsum Liquid Density Measurement Key points Reliable and accurate differential pressure and level measurement Simplify installation and ease of maintenance Reduce maintenance cost Customers Thermal Power Plant in Northern China Power Plant in North Eastern region in China Power Plant in North Western region in China Challenges Desulfurization in power plants is mostly achieved through the use of limestone gypsum wet desulfurization technology where SO 2 is absorbed by gypsum liquid as absorbents to reduce environmental pollution. The effectiveness of the desulfurization process is determined by measuring the density of the gypsum liquid. Commonly, the gypsum liquid density is directly measured with the density meter or the mass flowmeter which are costly, easily damaged and due to the nature of the application process. Application The desulfurization project in the Thermal Power Plant in Northern China and the Power Plant in North Eastern region in China adopts special measuring tank which installed the 3051S ERS on the high and low pressure sides where the density is measured through the differential pressure; The average density is inferred through the differential pressure between the P HI & P LO positions, ρ=DP/g*h. In Power Plant in North Western region in China, similar application ideology where 3051S ERS has been installed on desulfurization absorption towers. The flange to flange distance between the high and low pressure sides is 4 meter with the gypsum liquid maintaining at 10 meter which ensuring both high and low pressure sides of the Differential Pressure measurement are submerged at all times ensuring continuous density measurement of the gypsum liquid. ERS can also set an alert if measured liquid level is lower than the low alarm. This can be done by taking the Pressure measured on P HI divide by the measured density of the liquid. ERS multivariable ability allow the customer to easily interface on existing host system without any modifications by using single 4 to 20mA HART signal. This is not possible if we are using traditional method that uses two gage transmitters to perform density measurement which requires 2 sets of I/O & wiring to the field and the DP and level calculation perform in the control system © 2012 Rosemount Inc.
