Ratios, Proportions and Unit Rate Objective is to: write ratios and find equivalent ratios use rates and unit rates to compare quantities

Equivalent Ratios Equivalent ratios are ratios that name the same comparison. You can find equivalent ratios by using a table or by multiplying or dividing both terms of a ratio by the same number.

Make a Chart/Table A punch recipe makes 5 cups of punch by mixing 3 cups of cranberry juice with 2 cups of apple juice. How much cranberry juice and apple juice do you need to make four times the original recipe? Method 1 Use a table. Make a table comparing the amount of cranberry juice and apple juice needed to make two times, three times, four times, an the original recipe. (Example)

Label, Label, Label

Distractors

Label and watch distractors

Set it up as two fractions and label

Ratio set as two fractions

Write answers as fractions and Label

Ratio set as two fractions putting answers in question #38

Unit Rate A unit is a single item or a measure, such as inches, ounces, or liters. When shopping, it helps to find unit rates, or how much one unit costs. For example: If you know that 2 movie tickets cost $14, then you can figure out the unit rate, by dividing 2 movies into $14. Thus it is $7 for one ticket.

How much for one? You divide $14 by 2 Or you can set it as two fractions

Is it easier to divide, write as fractions or make a table?

How much for one? You divide $5.25 by 25 Or you can set it as two fractions

A table can also be used to compare two separate unit rates

Distractors Is the information for the variable labeled correctly? Are they multiplying and dividing by the same number all the way down?

Not questions Not equivalent 3 answers are correct 1 wrong/not equivalent Label/Write don’t just highlight Not green, not blue Not equal When you write it helps focus more on what you are looking for …which one is not

Label and Write as 2 fractions
