3 The Most Common Errors of Candidates Attempting the Clinical Exam– Part Two of the PCE. 1. Doing something that is not part of the instructions Are you doing an assessment in a treatment station or a treatment in an assessment station? 2. Talking to the examiner instead of the standardized client You need to treat the standardized clients like real patients.

3. Describing what you would do instead of doing it You will be marked for what you do, unless the instructions tell you to describe your actions. 4. Using medical terminology or physiotherapy jargon when you talk to the standardized client The standardized client has to understand you. Use plain terminology. 5. Speaking too fast The standardized client and examiner have to be able to understand you. 4

6. Disorganization – jumping from topic to topic If you are disorganized, standardized clients will have trouble understanding you and following your instructions. 7. Trying to do too much in a station You need to focus on the task requested. If you try to do too much, you confuse the standardized client and the examiner. 5

8. Letting the performance in one station affect performance in the next station Do not let past performance affect your focus and performance in the next station.
