4 1 Corinthians 11: 24-25 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.“ 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;

9 “While He Was Still Young” King Josiah

10 34 1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. 2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images.

12 34 1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. 2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

13  Able to discern between good and bad influences  Amon– Did Evil is the sight of God  Manasseh– Did Evil is the sight of God  Jedidiah--Solomon son of David good man  Hilkiah— High Priest in the days of Josiah  Zephaniah— Prophet of God in the days of Josiah  Jeremiah– Prophet of God in the days of Josiah  Hezekiah— Good king of Israel and grandfather of Josiah  David— Best king of Israel and ancestor of King Josiah  False Prophets– But He knew how to distinguish between good and evil!

14  Made a decision  To reject wicked status quo  Didn’t know the answers yet but knew that God had the answers  “If you will seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever” (1 Chr. 28:9)

15 “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” (Josh. 24:15) “Remember now your creator in the days of your youth” (Eccl. 12:1)

17 34: 3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images. 4 They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars which were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images he broke in pieces, and made dust of them and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them. 5 He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem. 6 And so he did in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, as far as Naphtali and all around, with axes. 7 When he had broken down the altars and the wooden images, had beaten the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

18  Seeking the Lord drives one to action  Carried out God’s will  Lev. 26:30 God warned Lev 26:30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and cast your carcasses on the lifeless forms of your idols; and My soul shall abhor you.

19  Seeking the Lord drives one to action  Carried out God’s will  1 Kings 13:1-2 God prophesied 1Ki 13:1 And behold, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. 1Ki 13:2 Then he cried out against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "O altar, altar! Thus says the LORD: 'Behold, a child, Josiah by name, shall be born to the house of David; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and men's bones shall be burned on you.' "

20  Seeking the Lord drives one to action  Carried out God’s will  2 Kings 23:15-16 Josiah obeyed 2Ki 23:15 Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and crushed it to powder, and burned the wooden image. 2Ki 23:16 As Josiah turned, he saw the tombs that were there on the mountain. And he sent and took the bones out of the tombs and burned them on the altar, and defiled it according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.

21  Seeking the Lord drives one to action  Carried out God’s will  Isa. 55:11 Word not return void Isa 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

22  Obeyed thoroughly  Broke down, burned, crushed, dug up bones  Jerusalem, Judah, Bethel, Ephraim, Manasseh, Naphtali, Samaria  Overcame obstacles  Age, family, majority, leaders

23 Flee youthful lusts (2 Tim. 2:22) 2Ti 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

24 Abstain fleshly lusts (1 Pet. 2:11) 1Pe 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,

25 Set mind on things above (Col. 3:1-3) Col 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

26 Think on these things (Phil. 4:8-9) Php 4:8-9 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

27 Josiah was willing and ready to Repair the house of the Lord… Are we willing to follow the example of Josiah this morning and learn from this good man? The house of God was destroyed, the House of God is destroyed today too!

28 to repair the house of the Lord his God they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God 2 Chron34:8-10… In the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the temple, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God. 9 When they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites who kept the doors had gathered from the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the remnant of Israel, from all Judah and Benjamin, and which they had brought back to Jerusalem. 10 Then they put it in the hand of the foremen who had the oversight of the house of the Lord; and they gave it to the workmen who worked in the house of the Lord, to repair and restore the house.

33  You must do 3 Things: 1. Seek the Lord 2. Smash the Idols 3. Repair the Lord’s House Will you do it?
