Rev. 1:1 A.THE PROLOGUE: B.THE PROPHECY: 1.It is a Revelation.1:1 Of Jesus (Gk. apokalupsis = the unveiling/disclosure of that which was previously hidden or unknown.) 2. It is by Representation - "signified it". 1:1… The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to show unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

It is by Representation - "signified it".1:1 How to interpret the symbols and numbers: They have their own… a. interpretation.1:12, 13, 16c & 1:20 b. comparisons.1:13-15 cf. Dan. 7:9, 10 c. characteristics 6:1-8 - colours of the horses. d. numbers which are representative or real. 5:6 "seven" = Representative of perfection. 1:11, 20 "seven churches" = Real churches.

f. What about 1000 years (Rev. 20:1-7)? e. What about the 1260 days? Rev. 11:3 (12:6, 14) cf.11: 2; (13:5) And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days clothed in sackcloth… Cf. …and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection …they …shall reign with Him a thousand years. And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison…

The Preterist Approach - History of events in John's day; 3. The Historicist Approach - A History of the Church 4. The Futurist Approach - Regards Revelation as futuristic. Pre-millennial in character.
