3 Some figures II – 2 events, 1 publication (recommendations), 1 website – 1 main objective: provoke an in-depth debate among universities and relevant stakeholders on main policy issues highlighted in the EC Communication ‘Suporting Growth and Jobs – An agenda for the Modernisation of Europe’s Higher Education Systems’, 20.09.2011 – 5 topics: Increasing attainment levels, Quality and relevance, Mobility & cross border cooperation, Knowledge triangle and Governance & funding

4 Background Major challenges Education and Training are facing in times of crisis: labour markets transformed, disappearing low-skill jobs, lack of funding, anticipation skill needs, longer working lives, etc Europe can create right conditions for growth and needs a well-educated work force with skills to face new challenges. Potential of European HEIs to fulfil their role in society and contribute to Europe’s prosperity has to be better exploited. COMMUNICATION: ‘Supporting Growth and Jobs – An agenda for the Modernisation of Europe’s HE Systems’

5 Aims MAIN AIM: To generate and facilitate an in-depth discussion among relevant university representatives as well as stakeholders on the main policy issues highlighted in the Communication by means of highly interactive seminars – hands-on approach towards the subject matter: what can we undertake, how can we react in the most appropriate and efficient manner – supporting growth and jobs as an essential cornerstone for the future of our continent AND: – To formulate, in cooperation with the stakeholders, advice and recommendations – Awareness raising campaign both within and outside the EU on the Communication and all related EU policy documents. – Exploitation of project results (also beyond the contract period) through specific actions foreseen by the partnership.

6 Activities: Workshops I February 2013 2 days workshop 45 to 50 participants: – University education & research professionals – QA officers – Mobility/IROs TOPICS: – Increasing Attainment levels – Improving Q & relevance – Mobility & cross border cooperation May 2013 1 day workshop 45 to 50 participants: – Senior university managers (strategy level) TOPICS: – Making the knowledge triangle work in view of regional development – Improving governance and funding

7 Activities: Workshops II Importance of the participation and involvement of stakeholders, other university networks and coordinators of related projects Same format: Introduction by EC speaker Keynote on topics Parallel discussion groups Wrap up and closing 5 Chairs and rapporteurs (co-authors of publication) will be appointed. Background material will be prepared for the events and reports will follow

8 Activities: EMMA Recommendations Publication ready by end June 2013 5 main chapters by the appointed experts (workshops’ rapporteurs) Rapporteurs will receive guidelines and instructions Based on the events outcomes Meeting May/beginning June 2013

9 Activities: Dissemination Project logo, project flyer,project standard presentation and mailing lists to be produced during first months EMMA project web portal updated on a regular basis. A discussion forum will be integrated Education Ministries Briefing available to all CGU representatives Breakfast briefing in Brussels at the end of the project

10 Activities: Management & Quality Management: – 5 Steering Committee Meetings (some coincide with other events). Reports will be available. – 6 members: 3 representatives CGU, 1 BES, 1 VOKA, 1 ICUnet – Partnership agreements will be signed Quality: – Academic Quality control by independent expert (publication & events) – Quality control at management and implementation level: drafting events feedback forms, setting up deadlines, carrying out interviews, etc

11 Activities : Sustainability Establishment of the Compostela Interest Group ‘EMMA’ Continued used of the EMMA Recommendations Maintenance of project website and discussion forum Other spin off initiatives (student forum within Compostela, new projects, etc)

12 Role of Partners: COMPOSTELA GROUP Project coordinator: – general management & financial tasks, contact EACEA & partners Workshops tasks: – Academic Follow up – Liaise with member universities – Involve experts – Deal with registration – Call for participants (20 experts from member universities) – Drafting template for workshop reporting (to be used for the publication too) Publication tasks: – Academic follow up – Contact with co-authors (workshops’ rapporteurs) – Drafting publication structure Dissemination tasks: – Briefing to Ministries of Education – Co-organising Breakfast briefing in Brussels – General dissemination tasks Sustainability: – Compostela Interest Group – Further use of Recommendations

13 Role of Partners:Brussels Education Services Support to Project coordinator: – Reporting and meeting agendas Workshops tasks: – Administrative Follow up – Briefing speakers, chairs and rapporteurs – Prepare workshops material: background documents, reader, programme, etc – Drafing the guidelines for rapporteurs (to be used for publication) Publication tasks: – Collecting related projects and background documents for rapporteurs/co-authors – Administrative folllow up: Contact with co-authors Setting up deadlines Dissemination tasks: – Production of logo & leaflet – Production and managemnet of website & discussion forum – Contact lists – Co-organising Breakfast briefing in Brussels – General dissemination tasks Quality control: – Drafting Quality Plan – Profile for indepent expert – Responsible for quality at project level

14 Role of Partners:VOKA Management: – Participation meetings and general follow up Workshops tasks: – General follow up & participation workshops – Proposing speakers and inviting participants Publication tasks: – Participation in co-authors meeting – Sending views on draft recommendations & involvement in final validation Dissemination tasks: – General dissemination among employers and trade organisations in Flanders and Europe – Participation breakfast briefing General follow up taks in Quality control and sustainability (involvement of employers and trade organisations)

15 Role of Partners:ICUnet AG (EMA) Management: – Participation meetings and general follow up Workshops tasks: – General follow up & participation workshops – Proposing speakers and inviting participants Publication tasks: – Sending views on draft recommendations & involvement in final validation Dissemination tasks: – General dissemination among student organisations in Europe – Participation breakfast briefing General follow up taks in Quality control and sustainability (involvement of student organisations)

16 Role of 5 CGU experts: from workshops rapporteurs to publication co-authors 5 experts (one for each of the topics) to be proposed by CGU and approved by Steering Committee They will be involved in project from early stage They will act as rapporteurs in workshops (their reports will feed into publication) They will read and follow the guidelines prepared by the partners They will take part in the co-authors meeting They will write their respective publication chapter and will meet the deadlines set by the EMMA partners
