General Rules of Proportions: Rectangles are generally more pleasing than squares. Unequal divisions of space are more appealing than equal divisions. Proportions are expressed as ratios.

The Golden Rectangle/Section Has sides in a ratio of 2:3 The short sides are 2/3 the length of the long sides Most people study the shapes and sizes of objects and can tell by look if something “fits”.

An easy way to approximate a golden section/rectangle is by using this pattern of numbers: 1,2,3,5,8,13,21 A rectangle with dimensions based on two consecutive numbers in this sequence (ex. 3:5) will be close to the shape of a golden section/rectangle.
