Limerick Poetry and Free Verse Poetry

What is limerick poetry? A limerick poem is a humorous five-line verse that has a regular meter and the rhyme scheme aabba. They also often have place names in their rhymes.

Example There was an old man of Peru Who dreamt he was eating a shoe. He awoke in the night With a terrible fright. With a terrible fright. And found it was perfectly true!

What is free verse poetry? Free verse is poetry that is “free” of a regular meter and rhyme scheme. Poets writing in free verse try to capture the natural rhythms of ordinary speech.
