Bronte gives this extract the effect of it being Nelly’s memories because of the usage of first person narrative and usage of personal pronouns like I, He She and We, that is how the extract started “ Before I came to live here…”. Furthermore to connect or link into that citation, the usage of the word “Before” gives the impression of this story or event had happened in the past or it being a memory.
