Almost every day we describe and assess the personalities of the people around us. Whether we realize it or not, these daily musings on how and why people behave as they do, are similar to what personality psychologists do.

DO YOU HAVE A PERSONALITY? Everyone has a unique personality PERSONALITY - A person’s unique pattern of thinking, emotion & behavior. - The consistency of who you are, have been, and will become. CHARACTER -Personal characteristics that have been judged or evaluated; desirable or undesirable qualities. TEMPERAMENT -Hereditary aspects of personality including sensitivity, moods, irritability and distractibility.

FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PERSONALITY INCLUDE: CONSISTENCY: Recognizable order and regularity to behaviors. Essentially, people act in the same ways or similarly in a variety of situations. PSYCHOLOGICAL & PHYSIOLOGICAL: Personality is a psychological construct, but research suggests it is also influenced by biological processes and needs. IMPACT BEHAVIORS & ACTIONS: Personality does not just influence how we move and respond in our environment, it also causes us to act in certain ways. MULTIPLE EXPRESSIONS: Not just displayed in our behaviors. Also seen in thoughts, feelings, close relationships and other social interactions.

PERSONALITY TYPES: Characterized by presence of several specific traits.

PERSONALITY TYPES -Carl Jung (Swiss Psychiatrist and Freudian disciple) believed we are one of 2 Personality types INTROVERT: - Shy, self-centred person. Attention is focused inward. EXTROVERT: - Bold, outgoing person whose attention is directed outward.

UNDERSTANDING PERSONALITY SELF ESTEEM: -How we evaluate ourselves -A positive evaluation of oneself - Based on accurate appraisal of strengths and weaknesses
