2 Required exams for licensure
NBDE part 1 NBDE part 2 Regional board exam NERB aka CDCA SRTA WREB CITA CRDTS Jurisprudence exam or certificate

3 Before you apply Regional testing agencies do not handle licensing. They are only testing agency and not a licensure or regulatory board. It is the State Dental Board who gives the license to practice Dentistry. Check with the State Dental Board where you want to practice for additional requirements for licensure. Check the websites for current information.

4 Some exceptions Delaware – conducts its own practical clinical examination and requires post-graduate education or practice experience New York – DDS degree plus at least 1 year of GP or other specialty dental residence program US Virgin Islands – has its own clinical examination twice a year

6 WREB Application Requirements
Apply early online Exam sites have individual space limitations and applications are processed on a space-available basis. Pay the full exam fee (as of 2015) Clinical: $1760 base fee plus school use fee CTP: $280 Submit proof of qualification before the final exam date WREB results are released 1 week after the exam

7 Proof of Qualification
Any of the following: Photocopy of candidate diploma from an accredited school An original letter on school letterhead from an ADA accredited school indicating DDS or DMD was received from that school. Completed Certification for Graduating Seniors Form

Registration opens in August Application deadline is in September $500 late penalty fee if applying after application deadline CTP Exam – must be taken within days Final Deadline – Feb or March of the following year Required documents must be submitted No application is accepted after the final deadline

10 WREB Exam Comprehensive Treatment Planning Exam (CTP) Clinical Exam
3 patient cases, one case is a pediatric patient Computer-based, 3 hours Clinical Exam 1 orientation day and 2 and ½ clinic days (ends at 11am) Live patients: 2 operative (Class II and III) and 1 periodontal treatment Endo tx on extracted teeth – 4 hour timed exam: 1 anterior tooth and 1 multi-canal posterior tooth

14 Exam Registration Process
Submit an application online Submit the following documents prior to application deadline: Proof of graduation Student Dental Board Coverage Application for professional liability insurance Pay the exam fees: $2195 Scores will be reported within 3-4 weeks after the exam is completed

15 CRDTS Exam and Dates Application deadline: August/September
Manikin-based exam: October of same year Patient-based exam: Feb/March of ff year Traditional exam – dates vary for each testing site, usually during Spring

Computer-based Diagnostic Skills Exam 100 points, 150 scored questions, 4 hours Endodontic Clinical Exam (manikin-based) 3 hours access opening on a first molar complete RCT on #8 Fixed Prosthodontic Clinical Exam (manikin-based) 4 hours 3-unit bridge (PFM and Full Cast crown prep) ceramic crown prep on #8

Anterior Class III composite Posterior Class II – Amalgam or Composite, traditional prep or slot cavity prep Periodontal Scaling clinical exam (optional, dependent on state licensure requirements) Treatment time is 1.5 hours after case acceptance Full working time is 3 hours

22 ADEX Exam Traditional vs Progressive Integrated Examination (PIE)
Traditional – manikin and patient-based exams are administered over the course of 2 consecutive days PIE – examination sections are administered in the course of up to 18 months

23 Southern Regional Testing Agency (SRTA)
Exam is developed by the ADEX Member States: Alabama Arkansas Kentucky Mississippi South Carolina Tennessee Virginia West Virginia

24 SRTA Exam fee: $2175 Application deadline date
Traditional – January of the same year of exam PIE – January of the same year of exam Exam Dates – one month after application deadline date Traditional – differs for each school, earliest is on January PIE – begins in January for the PIE 1 and PIE 2 is one month after

25 SRTA Exam Registration Process
Apply online: Required documents: Digital photo Digital copy of current and valid CPR certification Graduation status: School in a SRTA state – must provide a list of its graduating class Senior not in a SRTA state – certification from dean that candidate will be awarded a DDS or DMD degree

27 Council of Interstate Testing Agencies, Inc (CITA)
Follows the ADEX exam 5 member states: Alabama Kentucky Louisiana North Carolina West Virginia Puerto Rico

Create an online profile at Upload the Candidate application form After verification of profile and graduation status, apply for the exams Exam fee: $2100 plus testing site fee

30 North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners, Inc (NERB)
Renamed to “The Commission on Dental Competency Assessments” (CDCA) Follows Traditional format or the Curriculum Integrated Format (CIF) Traditional – exams are given during Spring, Summer or Winter CIF – Prosthodontic and Endodontic exams are offered during September or October of senior year; while Restorative and Periodontal exams are taken during February or March.

32 NERB Exam Registration Process
Create an online profile at: nerb.brighttrac.com Upload the following documents: Digital photo Proof of graduation except if applying for CIF Name change document (if applicable) After your profile is verified, select your testing site. For the DSE, click on “Prometric” to register for the exam Pay the fees within 72 hours of registering: $2085

33 Periodontal Clinical Exam
Considered optional exam of the ADEX exam. To take or not to take? Contact the states in which you wish to practice for current requirements for licensure The NERB/ADEX CIF fee includes the Perio exam. To take this at later time will result in a one-part exam fee No penalty for candidates choosing not to take this exam. Score for the perio clinical exam will be included in the score report. NERB recommends taking this exam to maximize the portability of exam results in obtaining licensure opportunities

34 NERB Exam Results DSE scores are reported at the end of the first full week of the month following the month in which the exam was taken Prosth and Endo – approx 3 weeks after the exam Restorative and Perio – electronically 1 week after the date of exam Scores are made available to all CDCA member states at no cost
