A concrete poem is a poem that forms a picture of the topic or follows the contours of a shape that is suggested by the topic. Word picture: Picture drawn using descriptive words about an object or idea that the picture represents How are these poems different from what you are used to?

1.) Choose what you want to write about 2.)Choose shape 3.) Make a list of some good descriptive words for the poem. (Using the five senses) 4.) Use the descriptive words to make poem in the shape you chose.

4 Model Example: cephalopod fossil (a curly shell)
The poem is going to be about a type of fossilization that we have gone over in class. Can you think of any ideas about a specific type of fossilization?

5 Create your own concrete poem about how fossils are made.
