What is Appraisal for? For the appraisee an opportunity to: Reflect on and celebrate their role in supporting the work of the school Review progress and development and identify next steps For the appraiser an opportunity to: Identify and recognise good practice Develop staff to help achieve School Improvement Plan priorities

Appraisal should… a positive experience take into account a range of evidence (not just focus on the three objectives) focus on strengths and achievements support development address any underperformance be the appraisee’s

Where are we now? End of first cycle under new arrangements New policies – developed from work with Working Party and consultation with staff Objectives were moderated and made more robust (mostly strategies and success criteria) New documentation and Audit Tools Teacher’s Standards Professional Skills Levels Descriptors Mid-Year Review TPAT Review Being written now, ideally in advance of 10 Oct

Review Opportunity to review performance Celebration of successes Outcome for each objective agreed Look carefully at the success criteria Ensure that there is clear evidence that can be agreed upon Clear agreement when objective is not met Being objective can be a challenge! Refer to hard facts, figures, concrete evidence

Review If a point of dispute arises – inform AZG as there may be a delay and arrange to meet again Finally, consider all the evidence and documentation (Audits, Objectives, Mid-Year Review, TPAT etc) before recommending any pay progression DEADLINE: 3 NOV 2014
