Adipose tissue or fat is loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes.connective tissueadipocytes Adipose tissue is derived from lipoblasts. Its main role is to store energy in the form of fat, although it also cushions and insulates the body.energy fatinsulates Adipose tissue also serves as an important endocrine organ [1] by producing hormones such as leptin. endocrine [1]hormonesleptin
4
A.Function 1.storage of energy as triglycerides a. 9 kcal/g fat 2.protection - layer of shock absorbing tissue for body surface 3.insulation - help maintain internal body temperature (perirenal fascia) 4.structural support - maintains shape of body & keeps organs in place

White fat cells (unilocular cells) Brown fat cells (multilocular cells)
7
White fat cells contain a large lipid droplet surrounded by a ring of cytoplasm. The nucleus is flattened and located on the periphery. The fat stored is in a semi-liquid state, and is composed primarily of triglycerides and cholesterol ester. White fat cells secrete resistin, adiponectin, and leptin.lipidcytoplasmnucleustriglyceridescholesterol esterresistinadiponectin leptin

Brown fat cells are polygonal in shape. Unlike white fat cells, these cells have considerable cytoplasm, with lipid droplets scattered throughout. The nucleus is round, and, although eccentrically located, it is not in the periphery of the cell. The brown color comes from the large quantity of mitochondria. Brown fat, also known as "baby fat," is used to generate heat.polygonal white fat cytoplasmlipidmitochondria

There are two types of adipose tissue, white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT), which are also known as white fat and brown fat, respectively, and comprise two types of fat cells.white adipose tissuebrown adipose tissuewhite fatbrown fat
13
Yellow Fat (unilocular adipose tissue) 1.adipocytes with 1 large fat droplet (inclusion body), no membrane around 2.50-150 m diam, among largest cells in body 3.nearly all adult fat tissue 4.loc throughout body except: eyelids, penis, scrotum, ext ear
14
Brown Fat (multilocular adipose tissue) (6.5) adipocytes with numerous lipid droplets very rare in adult found in embryos & newborns, & hibernating animals in human only in newborns many fatty inclusions, many mitochondria rich adrenergic inervation Thermogenic - creates heat instead ATP
17
TAG storage (postprandial) lipoprotein lipase (endothelial) activated by insulin stores TAG ingested or synthesized in the liver de novo lipogenesis: from glucose Lipolysis = release of NEFA + glycerole (fasting) Hormone-sensitive lipase (IC) inhibited by insulin activators: sympathetic NS, GH, (glucagon)

adipose tissue is located beneath the skin (subcutaneous fat), and is also found around internal organs (visceral fat).skinsubcutaneous fatorgansvisceral fat Adipose tissue is found in specific locations which are referred to as 'adipose depots.‘ Adipose tissue contains several cell types, with the highest percentage of cells being adipocytes, which contain fat droplets.adipocytes
