Worms are important because they plow the soil by tunnelling through it. There it provides the soil with passageways, which water and air circulate. That is important because soil microorganism and plant roots need air and water just like we do. Without some land and plowing soil becomes compacted, air and water cannot circulate anymore, and plant roots cannot penetrate.
5
1) Worms use muscles to stretch out. 2) They then contract the muscle and arch. 3) Worm repeat these steps when they move.
6
Worms eat soil and take the nutrients The also eat the leaves that are in the soil.
7
Worms don’t have lungs. They “breathe” by allowing air into their body and through the skin. Worms have five hearts. Worms get flooded by the heavy rain. That’s why we see them on the surface after it rains. When we worms eat something blue they will turn blue for a while.
8
Worms live in soil, tall trees, lakes, ponds, under rocks and in water. But worms love to stay in rich soil. Worms can also live anywhere!
9
Worms can live up to two – three years. If a worm is in a fridge it can live for a year.
10
The stuff worms eat is converted to humus. Humus is sort of like fertilizer.
