The 5 Step Approach to Managing Anger ◦ With a group with 1 or 2 people sitting near you, review the 5 steps on the hand out and discuss the activity. ◦ Describe what anger is. ◦ Develop some strategies for dealing with anger ◦ Develop a 5 step approach for managing anger.

Conflict- A disagreement between people with opposing viewpoints, ideas, goals. Bully- Someone who picks on individuals who are smaller or weaker. Labeling- Name calling

Prejudice- A negative and unjustly formed opinion, usually against people of a different racial, religious, or cultural group. Escalate- become more serious Revenge- Punishment, injury, or insult to the person seen as the cause of the strong emotion.

Mob mentality- Acting or behaving in a certain and often negative manner because others are doing it. Conflict Resolution- Solving a disagreement in a way that satisfies both sides. Win-Win solution- An agreement or outcome that gives each party something it wants.

Mediation- A process in which a third person, a mediator, helps those in conflict find a solution. Compromise- An arrangement in which each side gives up something to reach a satisfactory solution.

- Get into groups of 2-3 people. (Groups should be different from the first activity.) -Select 2 scenarios. -Identify the conflicts. -Roll play the arguments and their resolutions.
