Growing Success The purpose of assessment and evaluation is to improve student learning.

Ontario’s teachers use assessment and evaluation practices that: are fair, transparent and equitable support all students are carefully planned are clearly explained to students and parents at the beginning of the school year are ongoing and varied, and provide multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning include feedback that is clear, meaningful and timely help students to become independent learners Fundamental Principles

New Timeline Progress Report will be sent home November 18
parent conferences will be held the evening of November 25th and during the day on November 26th first Provincial Report Card sent home in February final Provincial Report Card sent home in June

The Elementary Progress Report
emphasis on Learning Skills and Work Habits a “snapshot” of what your child is DOING in his/her classroom will contain no letter grade or marks teachers will indicate whether a student is “Progressing Well”, “Progressing Very Well”, or “Progressing with Difficulty” in the subject areas learning Skills will be indicated as either Needs Improvement, Satisfactory, Good, or Excellent parent conferences on November 25th and 26th

The Learning Skills There are 6 new learning skills/work habits: Gr.1 – 12 Responsibility Organization Independent Work Collaboration Initiative Self-Regulation Teachers will comment on student strengths and next steps for improvement

Why are these Learning Skills and Work Habits Included?
Learning skills and work habits encourage students to: learn more effectively develop their potential as independent learners take ownership over their own learning develop and prepare for secondary school and the world of work prepare for learning and working in the 21st Century
