Preventing Childhood Obesity

 Target children ages 5-12  Get them away from the TV and videogames and outside being physically active  Discussions about staying active and healthy  I expect to provide the children with a fun experience  And also a chance to be active during their summer break

 Softball is a popular team sport that can be played by both genders and all ages.  This sport will involve each and every child  Because there are so many positions in softball each child should be able to find a position that they are comfortable playing

 Flyers  Balls  Gloves  Bats  Helmets  Catcher’s Gear  T-Shirts  Field

Budget: $500  Flyers-$30/150  Balls-$59.98/a bucket of 24  Gloves-$29.86/1  Bats-$18.86/1  Catcher’s Gear-$87.99  T-Shirts-$2.00/1  Helmets-$19.99/1 My budgeted total came to $443.36. This total includes: 150 flyers, a bucket of 24 balls, 4 bats, 1 catcher’s gear set, 5 helmets and 45 t-shirts.

The parents are only asked to provide their child/children with transportation. The children are asked to bring any and all equipment that they have and are willing to share.

 In order to supply the remaining items needed I plan to ask other organizations to donate anything that they can so that every child could have the equipment needed to participate.  The things that we will be needing are gloves and balls.  I plan to go to local parks and ask the coaches to donate at least one ball and any other piece of equipment that they can spare.

 I expect the outcome of this event to encourage children to partake in physical activities.  Aside from playing softball with the children I will discuss with them and their parents other ways to stay healthy and fit such as: limiting the amount of fast food that is eaten per week, monitoring the amount of junk food each child is taking in, and making sure that the children are being active everyday.
