1
Potential & Kinetic Energy
2
What have you done today?
3
Energy Energy- the ability to do work You have to have energy to do everything you do! The more energy you have, the more you can do. Moving objects have energy (duh) and still objects have energy!
4
What does “potential” mean?
5
Potential Energy Potential energy- the energy stored in an object (still objects) Have you seen any objects today that were storing energy?
6
Examples of Potential Energy
7
Kinetic Energy Kinetic energy- the energy of a moving object Have you seen any objects in motion today?
8
Examples of Kinetic Energy
9
Changing Energy Sometimes the type of energy in an object can swap back and forth. Think of a roller coaster!
10
Examples of Changing Energy
11
Rubber Band Potential Energy A rubber band that is stretched has potential energy. Kinetic Energy When the rubber band is let go and flies through the air, it has kinetic energy.
12
Candle Potential Energy An unlit candle sitting on a table has potential energy. Kinetic Energy When the candle is lit and burning, it has kinetic energy.

Wrecking Ball Potential EnergyKinetic Energy
17
What kind of energy is this?
